During a visit to Koppert Cress’ production site in Monster, The Netherlands, we spoke with Bart van Meurs about Quantified sensors in both production and research. It’s always inspiring to see the enormous variety of innovative products grown by this unique company! Below a short impression of the discussion with Bart.
What does Koppert Cress do?
“Koppert Cress grows unique products for the gastronomy industry, such as micro greens and edible flowers for a beautiful and tasty plate of food.”
What is your role at Koppert Cress?
“I am responsible for technical and sustainable innovations, which we work on within Division-Q, a subsidiary of Koppert Cress. We focus on process innovation, for instance for cultivation and climate systems, but we also support new product innovations.”
How do you use the Quantified sensors?
“We use the sensors regularly in various applications, both in research and in production. Recently, for example, we used the sensors to validate the performance of heat batteries in relation to our cultivation climate and energy use. They also help us support climate control in our production greenhouses.”
What is, in your opinion the added value of the sensors?
“The sensors are reliably wireless, robust, and we experience seamless coverage across our 10-hectare cultivation area. The API integration with other systems and platforms is very user-friendly. In the future, we also expect valuable insights from analyses of the historical data we have gathered over the past few years. New AI-driven analysis tools will play an important role in this.”
